Licence
Northlight is free software, released under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 (AGPLv3). “Free” here means freedom as well as price. Everyone who has Northlight has the right to:
- use it for any purpose;
- study how it works and change it to suit them;
- share it with anyone;
- share their changes, so others benefit too.
The licence protects those rights for everyone who comes after you. That’s why we chose it: Northlight can’t be taken private, and nobody can receive it with fewer freedoms than you have.
In practice
Section titled “In practice”- You can use Northlight for anything, including commercial music, without paying. The licence covers the software, not what you make with it. Your songs, recordings and projects are yours.
- Anyone who receives the application is entitled to its complete source code under the same licence.
- If you distribute a changed version, or run one as a service others use over a network, you share your changes under the same licence.
- The plugins Northlight hosts are separate programs and keep their own licences.
- Contributors keep the copyright in their work and license it under the AGPLv3, like everyone else.
